60x Black Madras Ornamental Rice Seeds – Oryza Sativa - Stunning Purple Foliage
Use Black Madras Ornamental Rice (Oryza sativa) to give your yard striking colour and a distinctive texture. This eye-catching cultivar is a standout in beds, borders, and container arrangements because of its beautiful deep purple to burgundy foliage. Black Madras adds an exotic, tropical flavour to any environment and is grown mostly for its bold, grassy leaves rather than for its ability to produce grain. It grows best in rain gardens or close to water features because it prefers full sun and moist, fertile soil. Sow seeds as soon as the earth warms up, or start them indoors four to six weeks before the last frost. It takes 7–14 days for germination. The plants thrive in both pots and garden beds and grow to a height of 12 to 18 inches. All season long, this decorative rice is a simple, low-maintenance method to add vibrant colour and texture.
Growing instructions:
Sow Black Madras Ornamental Rice seeds indoors 4–6 weeks prior to the last anticipated frost, or outdoors as soon as the soil has warmed up and there is no longer any risk of frost. For germination, which usually takes 7–14 days at 20–25°C, use wet, fertile soil and keep seeds constantly moist. Because it enjoys continuously moist or swampy environments and thrives in full sun, black madras is perfect for pots or the margins of water gardens. From early summer through late fall, it produces vibrant purple-bronze leaves and reaches a height of 12 to 18 inches. Despite being a rice variety, it is farmed mostly for its aesthetic qualities and yields little grain. Mid- to late-summer is when full foliage colour should appear.
