1100x Irish Moss Seeds – Sagina Subulata - Soft Dense Perennial Lawn Cover

Irish moss (Sagina subulata), a soft and dense perennial ground cover ideal for filling in the spaces between stepping stones or as a natural grass substitute, will transform your garden with its lush, carpet-like emerald. Irish moss grows to a height of only 2 to 5 cm and forms a low-growing mat of vivid green foliage. In late spring or early summer, it bears tiny, star-shaped white flowers. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and grows best in full sun to partial shade. It is both aesthetically pleasing and soft underfoot, making it perfect for rock gardens, borders, walkways, and ornamental lawns. Irish moss adds a sophisticated, mossy texture without the hassle of real moss, plus it's naturally weed-suppressive and low maintenance.

Growing instructions:

Irish Moss (Sagina subulata) can be grown from seed by first planting it outdoors following the last frost or indoors in the early spring (February to April). Press the seeds lightly into the surface of a fine, well-draining seed compost; do not cover, since they require sunshine to sprout. Maintain the soil at a temperature of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius and keep it continuously moist. It may take 14–28 days for germination. Move seedlings to their final location, separating them by roughly 10 to 15 cm, as soon as they are big enough to manage. Select a location with moist, well-drained soil and full sun to light shade. Keep the soil from drying up entirely, especially when it's young. Irish moss is perfect for grass substitutes, in between stepping stones, or as a ground cover in borders and rock gardens because it creates a soft, dense carpet of foliage. In milder areas, it grows slowly (2–5 cm tall), produces tiny white blooms in late spring to summer, and is evergreen. It can withstand a small amount of foot traffic, and regular trimming promotes thicker growth and keeps it neat.
